When feasible, Friendship Force of Southern Oregon raises funds to provide a “scholarship” (stipend) to enable a student to travel to another country for educational purposes. In determining a worthy recipient, members who interview candidates look for the following:
- academic excellence
- a well written personal essay
- interest in learning about other cultures/peoples
- articulate and thoughtful responses in the interview
- a good recommendation letter from a professor or advisor
- knowledge of Friendship Force and its mission
The awarding of these scholarships provides the club with positive publicity, as well as promoting the mission of Friendship Force.
